About the Garden

From 2007:

For over a year I thought about turning our small plots of dirt into something beautiful. There’s the front, where a bird of paradise is absolutely off balance, alone in it’s efforts to attract hummingbirds and other creatures lured to beauty. The bush of who-knows-what that seems to take no mind to the lack of water and overly abundant sun. Then in the backyard, a ficus owns the land. It’s prolific leaves — now dead — cover the cement track deceiving itself into thinking there is grass beneath. And the wall at the rear is sun-scorched with dried up and withering remembrances of a garden at its feet. Something needs to be done.

I’m a novice gardener. I am a planner and an analyzer. This garden journal is my scientific notebook, documenting my attempt to grow life in this barren and desolate area of Orange. One day it will be my paradise, home.
